Introduction

Malta Architecture and Spatial Planning – MASP

The Malta Architecture and Spatial Planning (MASP) Awards serve to give due recognition to architects, interior designers and any person who would have made an outstanding contribution over the years through research, education, theory or practice of architecture and the built environment. The MASP Awards also seek to develop a much needed awareness and appreciation amongst the public on the importance of quality architecture and the value of design in the built environment.

Over the long term, we hope that these awards foster a culture of excellence within the architectural profession and its clients. Excellence must not remain a clique word which we only aspire to or superficially speak about but it needs to become the DNA and mindset by which all stakeholders within the built environment operates.

We believe that through this pathway, the industry and all the professions involved in it can make a significant and positive leap forward which can radically change, not only the value of design and architecture across the Island, but more importantly the building industry, in which the architect and his client are key players.

This year, the Authority has also introduced another two new categories. The ‘Urban Planning Concept’ Award is aimed at promoting projects that are still at concept stage but through which innovative planning solutions address existing challenges within a given space. The second is the ‘President’s Award – The Personality of the Year for the Built Environment’.  The award will be given to that person who would have made an outstanding contribution through research, education, theory or practice of architecture within the built environment. This award is by nomination only.
