The project merited an award for its high-quality restoration of Casa Gourgion, Mdina’s iconic and much-photographed building. Built in the 1890s in an incongruous Neo-Gothic style amidst Baroque architecture, Casa Gourgion has captivated locals and tourists for nearly a century, despite initial outrage at its design. The restoration aimed to return the property to its original state, transforming this private residence into a sustainable and accessible visitor attraction experience that fulfils modern standards. This adaptive reuse respectfully showcases the history of Mdina and the Gourgion family, revitalizing the landmark while preserving its unique character.
